ALBUM OF THE WEEK: June 5-11
Code Orange is a band that should be under the radar as one of the newer upcoming bands. I’ve already mentioned them in a few “Playlist of the Week” lists, so I’ve been watching them fairly closely. The album of the week is their second album Forever, which was released early this year. And let me tell you, it starts with one of the coolest intro riffs I have ever heard. It has a punch-in-the-face kind of chug and a bitchin’ beat that will make anyone bang their head. It’s a mosh-starter for sure.
The band released a new music video a couple weeks ago for the song “Bleeding in the Blur,” which is in this album. I have put this song in the “Female Fronted” playlist of the week, because the band’s guitarist, Reba Meyers, sings in this song. She had a very grunge and strong voice, and doesn’t bring down the band’s “hardcore-ness.” Not to mention, she’s a pretty damn good guitarist.
This eleven-track record is a mix between Rage Against the Machine, deathcore, punk and death metal. Even though they declare themselves as hardcore, I think they’re much more unique and have created a new sound that could help define a new subgenre of modern metal.
