ALBUM OF THE WEEK: May 22nd - 28th
In honor of the great grunge master, Chris Cornell, this week’s album and playlist will be in his memory. Now while Chris Cornell was known for more than just Soundgarden, the very first album I ever listened to of his was Superunknown, an album chock full of amazing tunes.
The first song I heard was, of course, on the radio, which was “Black Hole Sun” (again, of course). I looked into Soundgarden’s albums after, but that song in particular got stuck in my head for about a month.
Of course, Cornell wrote other masterpieces that will be listened to for decades to come in this album alone. Songs like “My Wave,” “Fell on Black Days,” the title track, “Superunknown,” “Spoonman,” “The Day I Tried to Live,” and “Mailman” were all on this album.
This is another essential album to anyone’s repertoire. Cornell’s work did not only help shape an entire decade of music, but he created art that will last forever. Rest in peace, Chris Cornell; legends never die.
